The team behind TEDxNorthwich is looking for ‘ideas worth sharing’ as they prepare for this year’s event on July 3rd.

The town held its first TEDxNorthwich event in June last year and brought eight inspiring minds to the stage to share their thought provoking ideas which spanned water pollution to personal fitness, entrepreneurial socialism and education.  Now the search is on for this year’s speakers and the organisers want to hear from people of all disciplines, subjects, interests and backgrounds.

Sam Newey, who organises the event with local businesswoman Catherine Sandland and a team of volunteers, said: “TEDxNorthwich was such a triumph last year that we’re excited to bring it the town for the second time.  We’re already in talks with several potential speakers but we welcome people from local community groups, projects and businesses to put themselves forward too.”

TEDx is part of TED, a not-for-profit organisation devoted to spreading ideas in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics, from science to business to global issues, in more than 100 languages.

Sam added: “We really want this year’s speaker applicants to wow us with their big ideas and showcase their passion subjects.”

Ashley Costello was one of the speakers at the first TEDxNorthwich.  She said: “TEDxNorthwich was an incredibly special experience.  On the night, the atmosphere was electric and each of the  talks sparked lots of discussion among the audience and networking afterwards. It’s been one of my career highlights and it was worth the months of practice and preparation that went into it.”

Videos of all of last year’s speakers have been shared to the TEDx Talks online community, which means their ideas will reach a global audience.

TEDxNorthwich will take place at 6pm on Friday 3rd July at Northwich Memorial Court.

About TEDx

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
